Using Influence to Empower Communities
Rosen Shingle Creek Conference
Center.
Orlando, Florida.
November 15-19, 2006
The National Urban League’s Whitney M. Young Center
for Urban Leadership (WMYCUL) is a nonprofit educational
organization that exists to foster positive social
and economic change through effective urban leadership
development. The mission of the Center is to cultivate
and enhance the leadership capabilities of individuals
and organizations that serve disadvantaged communities.
Our role is to convene and link those entities
to practical leadership development tools and
resources to help them address capacity issues
and various leadership challenges. The philosophy
is that through the enrichment and/or development
of effective leaders, disadvantaged communities
can be improved and empowered, thereby helping
to create a society whereby all people have equal
opportunity to be positive contributors.
Journey from
good to great with a diverse group of professionals
at the 2006 WMY National Urban Leadership Development
Conference (NULDC), as people of influence explore
the power of collaborative leadership. The NULDC
is the largest, most diverse national gathering
of community leaders and decision makers from
across the country, including: nonprofit board
members, chief executive officers, directors,
managers, and department heads. Delegates represent
social services and community-based organizations,
authorities and alliances, grass-roots organizations,
public health agencies, and educational institutions.
As well, the conference draws delegates from government,
education and research institutions, professional
associations, consulting firms and industry.
Discover how
the nonprofit sector is increasing its impact
and influence in communities across the country
through collaborative leadership. In addition,
learn how organizations are maximizing and capitalizing
on social entrepreneurial endeavors as a means
of responding to the ever-growing needs of the
community and the changing trends in philanthropy
and giving.
We have developed
an engaging series of plenary sessions, informative
concurrent training forums, and numerous opportunities
for networking. Key issues to be covered within
the broad spectrum of leadership include: social
entrepreneurship, economic development, health
and quality of life, education and youth development,
civic engagement, civil rights and social justice,
best practices, knowledge-transfer, innovation,
accountability, sustainability and evidence-based
outcomes.
Attendance
at the conference is expected to range from 500-700
delegates from across the nation.
