Published since 1976, The State of Black America is the most scholarly annual assessment of the status of African-Americans. Since 1999, the League has released the report during a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on the Wednesday prior to the League’s annual conference.

Each year, the National Urban League issues The State of Black America, a compilation of essays and papers about the progress and plight of African-Americans in our society. As is the tradition of The State of Black America, each edition also proposes solutions to the problems it reveals. The State of Black America 2004 report is currently available.
