National Urban League and America On
the MoveŽ Help Get You Moving and Healthier
Let's face it. Eating
right and getting enough physical activity
can seem tough. But aren't our children worth
it. Our community is twice as likely to be
overweight than other communities; increasing
our risks for heart disease, diabetes, high
blood pressure, cancer and more.
Our legacy
as a community is to stand up when it counts.
Today, let's stand up and begin to take
charge of own health!
Healthy
Steps is a collaboration between the
National Urban League and America On the
Move (AOM), a national initiative that helps
individuals and communities initiate and
maintain meaningful and measurable behavior
changes that support healthy eating and
active living habits in our society.
The AOM
message is simple. Just make 2 small changes
- take 2000 more steps and eat 100 fewer
calories every day - and you can stop weight
gain by balancing the energy you burn with
the calories you consume. It's an important
beginning that will make a big difference
& for yourself, your family and your community.

5 Ways
to Add 2000 More Steps
Whether
you're at work, at home, or out and about,
you'll find many ways to add steps to your
day. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Get off the bus several stops
from your destination and walk the rest
of the way.
Walk the perimeter aisles in the
grocery store before you begin shopping.
Replace a 30-minute TV show with
a walk with your children instead.
Take the stairs instead of the
elevator whenever possible.
Add 10 more minutes to a half-court
basketball game.
