Annelle Lewis serves as Senior Vice President of Affiliate Services at the National Urban League. In her position, Ms. Lewis has responsibility for the planning and administrative management of the department and the delivery of professional development, technical assistance and services to the affiliate network. She provides support to the Association of Executives, the Academy of Fellows, Council of Board Chairs, the Young Professionals, and the National Council of Urban League Guilds stakeholder groups; and the Whitney M. Young, Jr., Center for Urban Leadership Initiatives of the National Urban League.
From 1998-2003, Ms. Lewis served as Senior Vice President for Affiliate Development, Programs and Policy and was responsible for a $20M budget and more than 40 staff representing the Seniors in Community Service and Workforce Development Projects, Housing and Economic Development, and Department of Transportation.
Ms. Lewis earned her BA Degree in Urban Affairs from Michigan State University and MA Degree in Politics and Education/School Finance from Columbia University in New York. Advanced studies followed at Harvard University and the Case Western Reserve Mandel Center for Nonprofit Management. Prior to joining the National Urban League, Ms. Lewis served as President & CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan Denver. She also served as the Chief Development Officer at the Piney Woods Country Life School in Mississippi, and provided more than 15 years of leadership as CEO of the Lansing, Michigan, and Dayton, Ohio Girl Scout Councils. She has managed budgets in excess of $5M, and monitored and reported on investment portfolios exceeding $25M.
From marching in the 1960's to gain equal access in Michigan to working as an intern at the Martin L. King Jr., Center for Non-Violent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Lewis is an advocate and activist. Under her leadership, the Urban League of Metro Denver became one of the most successful and respected organizations in the Rocky Mountain Region.
Ms. Lewis's civic involvement includes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Rotary, a charter member and past president of the Michigan State University Urban Affairs Alumni Association, and the Michigan State University International Alumni Association Board of Directors. She received the UNCF Meritorious Award and the State of Colorado Governor's Citation for work on behalf of families. Currently, Ms. Lewis is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Assembly, an organization representing more than 60 national non-profit organizations.
