  • WHAT: Sponsored by Sprint Nextel and NASCAR, the first plenary session of the National Urban League's 2006 Annual Conference will feature the mayors of Atlanta, Los Angeles and Baton Rouge and other experts discussing ways to boost involvement of African Americans in reviving U.S. urban areas. The session is entitled "Strategies for Increasing Minority Participation in Rebuilding America's Cities."

    The league's 96th annual conference runs from July 26 through July 29 at the Georgia World Congress Center. This year's theme is "Building Economic Power for Black America" and is expected to draw over 10,000 attendees from across the nation and around the region. UPS and The Coca-Cola Company will serve as lead sponsors.
