YOUNG PROFESSIONALS HOST 2ND ANNUAL INFLUENCER SUMMIT As Part of the National Urban League Annual Conference: Building Economic Power for Black America
New York, N.Y. - June 28, 2006 -
Chuck D, from the famed '80's and '90's rap group Public Enemy, will be the keynote luncheon speaker, kicking off the 2nd Annual Influencer Summit in Atlanta, GA from July 27 - 29, 2006. The "Fight the Power" Luncheon is one of many events that hundreds of the nation's emerging leaders will attend in conjunction with the Annual Conference of the National Urban League.
"Repeated success with a program like this is not only exceptional...it's essential, to empower today's Influencers in the economic, political and social aspects of their lives," said Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League. "This is why we are extremely pleased to offer the Influencer Summit again as the newest addition to the annual conference of the National Urban League. Reaching out to these young emerging leaders now, will advance our goal of increasing the economic power of Black America in the future."
The Summit, sponsored by Citigroup and hosted by the National Urban League (NUL), National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), Marketing Opportunities in Business and Entertainment (MOBE) and Urban Influence Magazine (UIM), is designed to recognize and empower future leaders through a variety of plenary sessions, luncheons and interactive workshops featuring well-renowned speakers, and the "Annual Influencer Awards".
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the NULYP and MOBE by offering this forum again," said Tamara Brown, publisher, Urban Influence Magazine. "This forum proves to be an invaluable opportunity for young professionals seeking to network and exchange ideas, which will truly empower them in making a difference in their local communities."
Notable guests at the 2006 Influencer Summit include Paul Moody, Actor, Producer and Comedian, Jeffrey Johnson, Author and BET Co-Host "Chop Up", Alfred Edmond, Jr., Senior Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Black Enterprise, Joseph C. Phillips, Activist, Actor and Author, Sheri Riley, President/Founder of GLUE Entertainment Consulting, Ken Brown, Author and McDonald's Franchise Owner, Tara Dowdell, Independent Consultant and 'The Apprentice 3' Contestant, Nikki Woods, Radio Personality, George Fraser, Chairman and CEO of FraserNet, Jeanette Jenkins, Hollywood personal trainer and Urban Influence Magazine fitness columnist, to name a few.
Influencer participants will also get the chance to experience and enjoy some of the spectacular entertainment and nightlife Atlanta has to offer during the 3-day Summit. Grammy Award nominee Angie Stone and Grammy Award winner and Atlanta native Gladys Knight will perform at the Benefit Concert. In addition, there will be an "Influencer Summit Listening Party," a private event where participants get a sneak-preview of tomorrow's up and coming music hits.
Stressing the importance of family, the Influencer Summit is presenting several sessions geared specifically toward the Black family. In response to Hurricane Katrina, a special session on "9-1-1 Emergency Planning," is being offered this year, to help African-Americans and their families prepare for natural disasters. Also, with the impending retirement of the baby boomers, the sessions, "The Reality of Aging Parents: Giving Back to Those Who Gave to Us" and "Who's Stepping Up?: Rebuilding the Black Family," seek to advise Influencers of new and forthcoming responsibilities to the Black family.
Other Summit sessions include: "The Future of Black and Brown: Diversity in America", "Classism within the Community", "Political Showdown: An Issues Debate", "Passing the Baton: The Art of Transitioning Leadership", the ever popular, "Entrepreneurship 301", "Beyond the Bling: A Q&A on Money Management," "Portfolio Panache: Advanced Investing for Serious Investors", Overnight Celebrity: From Surviving to Striving in the Blink of an Eye," and "Image is Everything: Tips for Effective Packaging."
"Last year's Influencer Summit was an enormous success; we are eager to return this year," said MOBE President Yvette Moyo. "MOBE is dedicated to building relationships and partnerships, as well as creating opportunities, that will promote the development of talented African-American leaders. And this summit does just that."
Urban Influence Magazine's 2nd Annual Influencer Awards Reception: 'A Toast to Excellence,' will again honor Influencers from around the nation nominated for their outstanding achievement in the areas of civic engagement, leadership, community volunteerism and business. Last year's esteemed presenters Dr. Cornel West, Tavis Smiley, Broadcaster and Author, Cathy Hughes, Founder and Chairperson of Radio One Inc. and Tamara M. Brown, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief, Urban Influence Magazine paid homage to four influencers who embody excellence.
National Urban League Young Professionals' President Nolan Rollins shares, "This generation of young professional leaders is privileged to more opportunities than ever before.
