    National Urban League Annual Conference Hosts Women's Health Roundtable

    Fitness Expert Donna Richardson-Joyner to participate


    New York, NY, July 18, 2005 - Donna Richardson-Joyner will be a participant in the roundtable discussion about African-American women's health at the National Urban League Annual Conference at the Washington Convention Center.

    The Women's Health Roundtable titled; "Black Women and Wellness: What African American Women Ought To Know" will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 28 as part of the National Urban League Annual Conference, which takes place July 27th - 31st in Washington, D.C.

    Marsha Henderson, Commissioner, Office of Women's Health, U.S. Food & Drug Administration will preside. The panelists include The Honorable Donna M. Christiansen, U.S. Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress; Dr. L. Natalie Carroll, Obstetrician Gynecologist, Chair, Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural & Minority Medicine; Donna Richardson-Joyner, Fitness Expert; Dr. Denese Shervington, Director of Psychiatry, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Harlem Hospital Center.

    Too often, black women are disproportionately struck with serious ailments that could be prevented by precautionary measures. Six of the ten leading causes of death for Black women could be reduced by simple changes in behavior that determine our physical, mental and spiritual health. This compelling session led by health experts explores some of the measures that African American women must take to protect themselves and improve their lives.

    Highlights of the 2005 conference include a wellness walk, empowerment exhibits, strategic vision sessions and activities targeted to young professionals between the ages of 21 to 40 as part of a special agenda called the Influencer Summit, designed to recognize and empower the emerging leaders of the future.

    In addition, strategic forums will address diversity, closing the achievement gap, sports panels, international affairs, small business development, health roundtable, community policing, civil rights and civic engagement, homeownership, franchise ownership, education and black mayors.

    Admission to the Empowerment Exhibits Zones is free. The empowerment exhibits zones will feature an employment, health, technology, homeownership and fun zones. This year's employment zone will feature the participation of more than 100 Fortune 500 and high-tech companies, as well as non-profit and government agencies with both local and national job opportunities. Job seekers can have face-to-face discussions and interviews with recruiters.
