Golf Tournament Convenes in Atlanta May 31
ATLANTA, GA, May 30, 2000 The second Annual Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) Golf Tournament will convene at Stone Mountain Golf Club in Stone Mountain, GA on Wednesday, May 31. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the National Urban Leagues Scholarship Fund. Scholarship Fund awards will be presented at this years BEEP Conference, scheduled from May 30through June 2 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
BEEP, a one-of-a-kind mentoring and professional development program that enlists corporate executives to teach seminars, workshops and accredited courses on the campuses of the nations historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), is a program of the National Urban League, a social service and civil rights group.
This year marks the 31st anniversary of the BEEP Conference in Atlanta. The major conference sponsor this year is United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS), the world\'s largest express carrier and package delivery company.
Conference highlights include speeches by Patricia Russell-McCloud, a national lecturer, attorney and motivational speaker, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, world-renowned critic, scholar and author and Anna Lawrence, a best-selling romance novelist.

Other BEEP 2000 sessions will feature Dr. Henry Ponder, CEO and President of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) and Catherine de Blanc, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, discussing "The State of Historically Black Colleges and Universities."
In addition, Lee A. Daniels, John Shearer and Lester "Guy" Spellman of the National Urban League will address the historical relevancy of the National Urban League and their publications during a session titled "90 Years of Service: The NUL Perspective."

Keeping with its mission to bolster the academic preparation and social development of young people, 30 years ago the National Urban League established the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP), a seminar, lecture and mentoring program that is active on 84 campuses of the nations HBCUs.
Founded in 1910, the National Urban League is a nonprofit organization whose 114 affiliates in 34 states and the District of Columbia provide direct services focused on empowering African-Americans to achieve economic, academic and racial equality.
